MRI diagnostic centers can provide an Arthrogram to patients who need detailed information about an issue within joints such as shoulders, knees, or hips. They may be necessary if standard scans don’t provide enough information about the joints. Arthrograms are utilized and interpreted by active, board-certified, subspecialty-trained radiologists to take detailed images of the soft tissue in the joint to determine what is causing the issue within the joint and make a more accurate diagnosis.
What Can I Expect From an Arthrogram?
Before an Arthrogram, patients must disclose information such as the types of medications or supplements that they are taking, any allergies they have, whether or not they use medical devices, if they are or might be pregnant, and any serious health problems they may have. During an Arthrogram, contrast will be injected directly into the patient’s joint under fluoroscopy guidance, and images will be taken of the joint. Arthrograms are relatively painless, although patients may experience soreness following the procedure and discomfort when moving or holding the joint in a certain position during imaging.
