Before an MRI scan, you will be instructed on whether or not you can continue eating normally and taking your usual medications. Before your scan, patients are typically asked to change into a gown and remove any metal objects and electronic devices that could interfere with the scan. Patients will be asked to remove items such as jewelry, glasses, watches, hearing aids, hairpins, and more before their scan. If you have a metallic joint prosthesis, artificial heart valves, a pacemaker, implants, or metal clips, pins, screws, or plates in your body, you should inform your doctor and radiologist.
What Does an MRI Scan Check For?
Board-certified, subspecialty-trained radiologists will interpret and analyze the images from the MRI scan and report the findings to the patient’s doctor. MRIs are used to diagnose a wide range of medical conditions, diseases, injuries, and abnormalities by producing clear images of the inside of the body. MRI scans help doctors identify what is causing specific health issues so they can provide an accurate diagnosis and prescribe a treatment plan.
