MRI brain scans are a non-invasive diagnostic test that takes detailed images of the brain to monitor changes in brain atrophy over time. They use MRIs with brain image analysis, such as Neuroquant, to segment and measure the volumes of the hippocampus, ventricles, and other brain structures to identify or assess neurological conditions and neurodegenerative diseases. MRI brain scans can identify specific areas of the brain where certain functions occur so doctors can plan surgery or other treatments.
How Long Does an MRI Brain Scan Take?
MRI brain scans typically take 30 minutes to an hour to complete. Certain circumstances can shorten or lengthen the amount of time that will be needed for brain scans. MRI brain scans produce hundreds or even thousands of clear images, and Neuroquant takes around 20 additional minutes to analyze the brain images and produce brain imaging data and analysis. The radiologist will send the report to your primary healthcare provider, and the results should be available within 24 hours after the imaging is performed.
