How Do You Prepare For an MRI Brain Scan?

How Do You Prepare For an MRI Brain Scan?

An MRI brain scan requires no extra preparation for the exam. Unless other parts of your body are getting scanned, you won’t be required to abstain from eating or drinking. MRI brain scans can take half an hour to an hour to perform. MRI centers can provide transportation to patients who need mild sedatives before their MRI. Comfortable clothing should be worn to an MRI brain scan and jewelry should be left at home. You will be required to fill out paperwork and inform your radiologist if you are pregnant, have allergies, or have any implanted devices.

How Long Does it Take to Get MRI Brain Scan Results?

Radiologists can provide reports within 24 hours of the MRI brain scan. MRI brain scan images will be sent to your doctor after they are complete or, patients can leave with a CD of images for their doctors for a quicker treatment. The doctor can provide an analysis of the MRI brain scan and provide prescriptions and recommendations moving forward with their patient. Results may be slightly delayed if they aren’t urgent or if they are complex and more information is needed before the radiologist can interpret the images.
