How Long Does MRI Imaging Take?

How Long Does MRI Imaging Take?

MRI imaging typically takes anywhere from 15-90 minutes, depending on the number of scans needed and the area of the scans. Specialty exams can take up to 2 hours, and brain and spine exams up to 45 minutes. MRI exams are painless tests that are performed on different parts of the body and have unique time requirements. They are used by doctors to diagnose and evaluate injuries and diseases. MRI exams provide detailed images that are interpreted by a board-certified radiologist and sent to the patient’s physician.

When Will I Get the Results of MRI Imaging?

MRI centers will have reports available 24 hours after imaging is performed. The radiologist who performed the tests will send the images to the doctor who arranged the scan and discuss the results with you. MRI imaging is performed without the use of radiation and can be used to diagnose sports-related injuries, spinal injuries, ruptured or herniated discs, spinal stenosis, nerve damage, cartilage damage, tumors, soft-tissue abnormalities, vascular abnormalities, multiple sclerosis, primary bone tumors, bladder cancer, and abnormalities of the uterus, ovaries, or cervix.
