What Should I Wear For My MRI Test?

Before an MRI test, patients should leave all personal items and electrical devices at home, in their car, or in a locker or other secure storage at the MRI center. They also provide secure and private changing rooms so patients can change into cotton clothes or a gown that won’t interfere with MRI scanning. Jewelry, shoes, makeup, nail polish, zippers, fasteners, buckles, belts, or underwires can interfere with MRI magnets. MRI tests cannot be performed on patients with implanted pacemakers or certain implants.

Are MRI Tests Dangerous?

MRI tests are painless and radiation-free. If the patient suffers from claustrophobia, they should bring it to the attention of the physician or radiologist in advance so they can receive a mild sedative to help them relax. MRI tests are safe for patients of all ages that follow the proper safety guidelines. Any metallic or foreign materials within the body can distort the images of the MRI test and should be brought up to a doctor beforehand.
